Call for proposals: micro-projects (rapid response)
Priority area: Strengthened advocacy/watchdog role of NGOs
Project duration: 24. 5. 2023–19. 12. 2023
Project value: 4.964,00 EUR
The project addresses hate speech directed against the inhabitants who were erased from the register of permanent residents in 1992 and against the authors of the Ć-shaped monument erected in the Park of the Erased in the premises of the former Rog factory.
As in many cases of hate speech, online portals and the media played a key role in generating hate messages and stirring up hatred. Their publications were widely shared and violent and hateful messages appeared in the comments section. Since the publication of the results of the competition in which their solution was chosen, the authors of the monument, Vuk Ćosić, Aleksander Vujović and Irena Woelle, have been threatened, discredited in the media, and subjected to false and insulting claims. Consequences for them, their families and society as a whole were very serious.
We have filed a criminal charge against the comments appearing under an article published on the Nova24 web portal (article’s title was “Izbrisanim tudi spomenik sredi multikulturne Ljubljane”). The comments are extremely reprehensible and socially dangerous, which is why we have taken legal action. Among other things, we have also supported Vuk Čosić who filed a lawsuit against author Luka Perš. Luka Perš’s article, published on website prava.si, contained false and defamatory statements and legal action had to be taken.
