Despite the ambitious goals of water-related legislation, traditional engineering approaches, urbanization, agriculture, and excessive water use continue to degrade river ecosystems and lead to biodiversity loss. Recent events in Slovenia have shown that engineering alone is often insufficient to prevent floods caused by climate change.

The LIFE2RIVERS project aims to initiate a transformation in the way Slovenian rivers are perceived, managed, and protected. By applying the concept of co-creating river stewardship, we will support the objectives of the European Green Deal and related legislation.

We will strengthen collaboration through trainings and seminars on nature-based solutions (NBS) and river restoration , field excursions, and the creation of the Ecological Assembly (Ekološka zbornica). In addition, we will raise public awareness through EcoAdventure Days and a themed educational board game for schools.
